Business legal plans: are they really necessary?

Lets face it, you don’t do anything illegal, that you know of. You’ve never been sued, or had to sue somebody else. So why would you need a legal plan?

You probably know Oprah, Donald Trump, Bill Gates, Michael Dell, and other big business owners not only use attorneys, but probably own entire firms (internal firms dedicated to just representing their individual corporations). And for some reason, it just seems more logical that they would use attorneys. If they think it’s necessary, why do we small business owners, that are just struggling to get by, feel we are immune to the idea of accessing legal advice and representation?

But seriously, why would you need a legal plan?

The answer is really simple, the most successful businesses have access to the right resources they need to make smart decisions and protect them from other peoples bad decisions.

What does that mean, the right resources?

We all have resources. It’s just that sometime those resources aren’t the best options. For example, if you have a brother that’s a dentist, would you seek his advice regarding your knee injury just because he’s a “doctor”? You could, but what’s likely to happen? He’ll either give you some really bad advice, or he’ll tell you to talk to an M.D (medical doctor) right.

The same thing applies when you’re dealing with the advice you need on how to successfully handle a legal situation. You may know a lawyer, and they may be ‘proud’ to give you advice, but when that lawyer is a personal injury (P.I) attorney and you need some advice on business taxes to avoid an IRS audit, do you really want to ask a P.I attorney? In many situation like this, business owners think, ‘oh, well, my accountant is really smart and they deal with that stuff’. Yeah, but if they make a mistake or dot the wrong T and cross the wrong I, the IRS will come to you, not the accountant! You need to know and understand what they are doing. And with a business legal plan you can talk to your attorney about what your accountant is doing and make sure that you are legally protected and maximizing your business deductions! Plus, a good legal plan would include IRS Audit assistance.

Classic example, remember when Mike Tyson was arrested for assault and batter (he beat up some dude in traffic), well he took his tax attorney to court to represent him, yeah, Tyson went to jail for 4 years.

There are literally hundreds of legal questions you should be asking every year if you’re a business owner. And maybe you do, but are you asking the right people? Are you relying on Google to produce the answers you need? Are you asking uncle Bob who’s a Malpractice Attorney in Georgia about what you should be doing in Arizona? Obviously, different states and different cities and different counties have different laws.

So why don’t we access the right resources?

We cant afford it! That’s the bottom-line! We’ve been priced out of the legal system. When calling a lawyer cost $200 to $500 an hour, it’s just not logical to pick up the phone and seek the right advice. Especially if it’s an issue that will cost less than the attorneys hourly wage to resolve.

But what if there was a way you could talk to specialized attorneys on an unlimited number of issues, have them write letters and make phone calls on your behalf, review your documents and contracts (before you sign them), write debt collection letters, advise and represent you in the case you’re audited by the IRS, and not have to worry about the high hourly cost! Now you’re dreaming right? Come on, that’s almost too good to be true, or is it…?

There is a solution!

You may or may not have heard of this amazing company, LegalShield, and if you have and you don’t subscribe to their services, you may have some preconceived ideas or just not completely understand there service, because if you did you’d be using it!

Their services are not new, their a 40 year old company. They have 1.4 million families paying for their services every month and there are over 2 million request a year (2010) for their services. More than 54,000 small business owners use these services every month across North America, and now you can too!

Some people avoid the company because of its business model, network marketing. Others avoid it because of ignorance. Either way that individual is the looser. Seriously, would you ever be without your health insurance? No, because it could coast a fortune if you didn’t have it and had to use it. Did you know that a legal situation could whip you out financially, just as quickly as a major medical issue could? Then way would you not protect yourself, your family, and your business? (You’re 3 times more likely to end up in court then you are to end up in the hospital)

And it’s not just about the big emergencies. In fact, in most cases when you use your legal plan it will be to ask a question to help you make smarter life decisions. Or you may have an issue where you’re being taken advantage of and you just need some muscle to help you activate your rights.

The bottom-line is this, if you can’t afford to pay $75 a month for a small business legal plan, then you won’t be able to afford a $200 an hour attorney when you need one.
