Many entrepreneurs that have a website do so because they want to promote their business and product and/or service offerings. Their intent is to create a profitable website.
However, I’m amazed by how many business owners still do NOT have a profitable website.
I’ve had numerous business owners come to me thinking their
low no conversion problem is due to a low amount of website traffic and they want me to establish a campaign to increase their traffic.
The real problem is their website, it’s doing more harm than good.
It drives away their ideal customers, keeps the buyers from buying and destroys their chances of establishing authority in their industry.
These things usually happen because you either built your website yourself or hired someone without any real marketing and conversion optimization skills.
And as a result of that, you’re probably not offering a ton of value through your website and not using the right calls to action.
Let me make this really simple.
If you’re website isn’t converting traffic into subscribers, members and customers/clients, it isn’t working!
Creating a Profitable Website
There are several steps in this processes, and I’m not going to start at the beginning here, however, what I will do is show you the two things you can be doing right now to make your website a revenue driving machine.
Or you could just jump over to this mind blowing webinar recording by Brian Clark and see exactly how these two things exploded his growth and revenues!
#1 Free Members Area
The buzz term for this these days is, “the logged-in experience”. Let me explain how and why this works.
The first thing you’ll need is a membership area on your website. Somewhere that people can create a user account and login for “members only content”.
A lot of people will stop right here , for a couple of reasons.
- The thought of doing something technical is overwhelming and stressful
- They tried a membership before without success
In either case, you probably didn’t follow Brian Clark’s strategy which he taught in this webinar on Creating a Website Experience that Converts.
I recommend you watch the webinar, it will eliminate both of those objections and most of the others!
The second thing you need to do is populate this free members area with some great content (the stuff covered in #2 below).
Most of the time free content requires an exchange, your email for the free thing. In many cases you may want to download 10 free things from the same website. That means you have to optin 10 different times.
Which can be a deterrent for many! It’s to time consuming and it’s just not a very good experience.
Which is why this free membership works so well. There is one optin, for unlimited and organized access to the free stuff!
On the revenue side.
Getting people to go from a free membership to a paid membership is an “upgrade” as opposed to a new sale. Which is a much easier sale!
On the other hand, if you only have people on an email list that previously download a single ebook, you have to sell them on the whole experience of joining your membership program.
#2 Downloads and Courses
This is the free stuff you’re putting in the membership area for your free members.
This doesn’t have to be your best stuff, but it needs to be really good. If you want this whole experience to lead to revenues, you need to be adding a ton of value to your members.
Having a mix of downloads and courses is a good idea because it supports different types of preferred learning styles.
You could have ebooks, worksheets, templates, single videos, webinar recordings, audios, resource lists, 3-5+ video courses and anything else you might produce.
One quick tip, this doesn’t even have to be your own content. There are other products you can legally share as long as you don’t try to claim it as your own by changing the copyright and rebranding it.
I’ve worked with a lot of people who got stuck here for a couple of reasons:
- They didn’t know what to create
- They don’t know how to handle the technical aspects of building out a course
The creation part is easy when you stop overthinking it, and you never have to think about the technical stuff if you use the platform Brian Clark demos in this webinar replay, Creating a Website Experience that Converts.
I recommend you start by repurposing your own content and sharing other resources.
For example, look through your most popular blog posts. Then pick one that you could turn into a 1 to 3 video training. You may need to add a bit of context but it will be easy to get done since you’ve already started.
And because it’s already a popular read, you could easily promote your free membership with an “extended online course” of that same topic.
For a free resource, you could use an affiliate product that is related to the content in that article.
You would use an ebook or some other free resource from the product creator to add as a “bonus” or a tangible download.
You can drastically change the effectiveness of your website with this simple strategy.
Offer a FREE Members area and start by populating it with repurposed content.
