I’m always thinking of new business and product ideas so having the Godaddy mobile app on my phone is a must so that I can quickly research domain names.
I would guess that over the past week, I’ve used the mobile app 5 or 6 times, and I noticed 2 serious user experience issues.
1. Why can’t I pay with a card already in my account?
You might be thinking this is a security issue, but it’s not. It’s an oversight, or a bug, but either way, I get frustrated because I can’t purchase my domains from the mobile app, unless I enter my CC info, which is a crapy user experience. And it’s not convenient for me to have to wait to purchase until I get on my laptop.
2. The “Cancel” button wrong place and wrong color
Here’s the trick with mobile apps, mobile app users were first web users, and so we expect for a “Search” button to be available to the right of the search bar. So to have the “Cancel” button to the right of the search bar is a little deceptive. This issue creates frustration and inconvenience for users who accidentally cancel their search and have to reenter their domain name. For as many times as I’ve used the app, I still press the “Cancel” button 1 out of 10 times instead of the “Search” button on the keyboard.
Instead of removing the button to the right of the search bar, and trying to find a new location for it, I’d recommend first changing the color. The green colors used for the “Cancel” button and “Add to Cart” button are different shades, however, I know the “Add to Cart” button is green, so mentally, when I see the green “Cancel” button, I’m thinking that clicking it will get me the desired result I want, just like clicking the green “Add to Cart” button does.
I’m not sharing this because I want to discredit or point out Godaddy’s flaws, I simply saw this as an awesome teaching opportunity so I’m taking advantage of it!
Creating an amazing user experience isn’t easy, especially when you’re building a mobile app, but you customers are expecting it!
Have you noticed any other bad UX experiences with the app?
